I 'Googled' the name of the house we are building with Porter Davis and found all these blogs of people in very similar circumstances to us. I thought 'what a great idea! What a fantastic way to keep a record of our progress.' So here is my attempt. We are a family of 6 building a just-right sized house west of Melbourne. Feel free to travel along with us.

About Me

I'm a woman with many interests but very few skills. I'm committed to trying to make the world a better place and one that we can share peacefully. I want people to be respectful thinkers. I have a husband but I don't think that defines me. I also have kids who I love dearly and am so proud of. We have a dog.

3 weeks??!! Really???

Well, it has been a busy week, to say the least, and PCI has been set officially for the 12th of June! Yayyy!! That means, if all goes well, we'll be moving in on the 19th.....

So, whoosh, big breath, where do I start?

The splashback is still an ongoing issue. I received another call from the CSC on Thursday to tell me that the splashback is indeed the colour I selected and there is really nothing more she can do for me. Now I have to tell you that, after a very busy day with work, study and children, I was in no mood to be told that! So poor CSC copped an earful, then promised that she would take the matter to a higher level and have someone of authority call me back. I got the call today from 'W', who is I-Don't-Know, and he told me that they would replace the splashback at their cost, if I was willing to pay for the upgrade to the 'starfire' glass, which is a clear glass that apparently will not affect the colour (funny, they told me the same thing about the 'standard' glass..) Anyway, I am now waiting to hear what the cost of the upgrade is before I decide.

I think the electrical fit-offs are complete now. I couldn't believe that they actually left the house wide open this week after installing all the lights and connecting the heating and cooling. If there ever was a time to lock the place up - it is now!! It's so lucky that I happen to be visiting every day - lol.

The linen cupboard in the laundry (that was a linen, then changed to a broom 'til I requested it be put back to a linen) has been fitted out as a broom cupboard - Grrrrrr!! READ THE BLOODY CONTRACT!!! So the little man will be fixing that up when he comes back to finish the pantry.

Oh, and the renderers came back to finish the front today and, yes, you guessed it, got the colour wrong!! There is supposed to be two colours but they've done it all in the one - no biggie, will be back to rectify that shortly..

Now for some good news... The painter has been back to touch up where necessary. The mirrors and shower screens have been installed and look great! And all the door knobs are on and I'm quite pleased with them. The temporary fence has come down. The carpet is booked in for Wednesday, so I'm assuming we will have toilets, taps and garage doors within the week. What else is there to do? It's all getting very exciting now!

Kitchen with rubbish dump.

Powder room with mirror.

Shelves in WIR that can actually be reached! Macy was very pleased about this.

Bathroom with mirror.

Love the shower screens!

Love my shower!!

While I know a full mirror would look great, I will appreciate the extra storage here.

Gosh! More fabulous news! You and J are really neck and neck now.
You house is looking stunning and it looks like the only issues are minor ones so hopefully they'll be fixed for you in no time.
Good luck with the splashback issue. From memory they charged us about $600 for the starfire glass.
Busy, busy, busy at your place for the next 3 weeks - good luck with all of that! Got the babysitters on standby??? ;-)

OMG!!! You have shower screens and mirrors?? I don't have those yet :( but I can raise you a toilet, taps and a garage door LOL

Seriously, it is all looking good and even better to hear that you may get a resolution to the splashback issue. You need to be happy.

Good luck for the rest of the week, our carpets are being done after handover along with blinds, fences, concrete etc. So I hope you have the credit card handy. I think this is almost the most expensive bit yet so much to do and organise.

Cheers
J

Thanks K&T, I'll keep that in mind when they come back with a figure - gives me something to go on..
J, I am so jealous of your toilets taps and garage doors! But I raise you carpet on Wednesday! He he he.. :)

Mandy, I haven't commented on your blog as yet but I have been following your build.
We are also building with PD, a 'Brookvale' and have just received our invoice for fixing stage.
When we were doing our colour selections we got a quote for a starfire splashback and were quoted $1200 to do the starfire glass. We had built a house with another volume builder and had upgraded the glass splashback at a cost of $350. Needless to say we didn't upgrade the splashback with PD. I'll be interested to hear what they come back with. I hope for your sake it's the lower figure!
Your house is looking great, especially those bathrooms. I guess I like them because we have chosen similar colours. Although, we don't have the feature tiles which is a shame because yours look really good.
Good to see the Macy is happy with the wardrobe, the kids have to put up with a fair bit when building a house. Especially getting dragged there every other day.
Good luck for your PCI, you should be in, in no time with no big issues.
Relle.

Hi Relle, nice to hear from you. That splashback figure sounds very scary!! I don't know what I will do if it comes back as that, although the CSC did hint at around $1,000....it seems PDs prices are VERY inflated so perhaps I could subtly suggest that they change splashback providers..(??)
It's always nice to see someone who has chosen a similar colour scheme - I will be keeping an eye on your blog from now on as well. Good luck with the rest of your build.

Mandy, place is really coming along, your catching us fast. Saw the comments on the upgraded splash back. Don't remember it being a $1,000 dollars for pure white which is what we got. The wardrobe heights are good as there is even enough room for another shelf which we are thinking about. Good luck with the next stage.

Hi Mandy,
Just thought I should also let you know that our splashback is 3510mm long. Not sure how big ( long ) the splashback is in the Rowland???
Perhaps it is longer and that's why they are hinting at a higher price?
Or perhaps they are just trying to make some extra money out of you, lol!!!

Thanks everyone for your advice, they still haven't come back to me with a price but at least I'm getting a bit of an idea. K&T, my splashback would only be about half the size of yours so if they charge more than $600 I'll definitely be kicking up a stink!! (And of course they'll be trying to get more money out of me - it just wouldn't be right if they didn't lol.)

I hope the kinks are being ironed out in your place R&C, it seems like you've been nearly finished for ages. Hang in there, it'll all be for the best.
